urban legend essay

An urban legend is a popular story alleged to be true which often spread from person to person.
Urban legends became popular by jokes that seemed to be true but are a lie to the society. They get people worried, mad, or possibly even sad.
There are many different urban legends that get spread. For example; a family member might send you an email, fax, or they may tell you via oral, or communication.

There are many different urban legends; stories about Styrofoam from noodle cups having deadly wax around the rim, it is said to have killed a boy that sipped from the cup, and got clogged in his intestines. Many people believe this to be true, But There would be no use to use wax on these containers; any use it could possibly serve is already well handled by the Styrofoam. This is false according to http://www.snopes.com/
Another urban legend I came across was about harmful carrying bacteria.
Did you know, your purse may be bringing harmful bacteria, and disease viruses into your home?

50 woman’s purses were swabbed, 15 out of those 50 women had the bacteria of hepatitis, and e-coli carried into there homes due to setting there purses on public restroom floors, the going home and setting there purses on the kitchen table, counters, or even furniture. This is a true fact, according to the scientists of Louisiana. They give the advice for woman to keep there bags and purses off floors, and off your home furnishings,
The third urban legend I researched was that .According to snopes.com red bull energy drink does not contain a banned government manufactured stimulant linked to the formation to brain tumors.

Red bull contains 600 mg of the substance per can; it is legal and was developed in the early 60’s by the government. There is a normal daily intake of caffeine in the drink. The stimulant is banned in many federal countries, due to the rumor that is very bad for your health.
the federal gov made this as a legal substance.

All in all; if people receive messages about the following we need to remind them that it may in fact be true, or false, according to http://www.snopes.com/.

violence in the media.

Violence in the media today has alot of detailed violence. i beleive the media today has gotten a little out of hand. For example; the violence shown in videogames, and movies are being shown to young children, and adults. I think it is very wrong for the media to be showing this. The types of things it is showing is the follwing, how to kill, the meaning of violence in a very discripted matter, and the types of weapons that could be used to hurts somebody. The second example is sexua lcontent. You see in video games the woman in them, and how they're bodys are shaped, and the clothing they have on. I beleive this shows children its ok to dress like this, and do the actions these characters are performing. Third example is. You see on the tv the news. There is murders, shooting, etc. Alot of of children see these types of things everyday, and some might think its normal life, and these types of things might not phase them what so ever, I think the media has a very large amount of violence, and innapropriate images being shown to young viewers. And the violence these children see will most likely be repeated by them.
